No one can deny that Glennie girls are a very creative bunch. It only takes a peek inside one of our Year 8 visual arts classes to see the breadth of artistic talent that our girls exude.

Currently, the girls are drawing inspiration from artist Hundertwasser, and incorporating the free-flowing lines, bold and vibrant colours, and of course onion top buildings and lollipop trees in their creations.

Each girl is creating a uniquely Glennie work, with all of the artworks depicting an area of the School. For Year 8 students Molly and Isabelle, the challenge of incorporating Hundertwasser in their works has been a fun one; Isabelle mentioned ‘I wanted the lollipop hedges to look like the eyes, and the pathway I turned into a mouth, so that the front of the School looked like a smiling face’. Molly considered her use of curves when painting her work, ‘Hundertvasser didn’t use any straight lines in his paintings, because he believed that in nature there aren’t any straight lines.’

These beautiful works will eventually be folded into small books, teaching the girls not only the skill of watercolour painting, but how to display their artworks. Last term’s artworks are currently on display in the Glennie gallery space
