Fire and Emergency visit

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services returned to the Junior Years to continue educating our Year 1 girls about fire safety in Term 2.

In the lead-up to the visit, the girls have learned about the difference between good and bad fires, how to escape from their house if a fire breaks out, and how to ring 000 and tell the operator their name and address. The girls have also organised meetings at home with the family to discuss their Fire Escape Plan, and to check that their house had working smoke alarms, a fire extinguisher, and a fire blanket.

The culminating activity brought a smile to the faces of all the girls, with a very special visit from the fire engine this afternoon! As the girls gathered around the engine, the on-hand firefighters shared vital information about the truck, and how the equipment on board can help save lives.

As the end of the day neared, our very special guests gave each and every girl the chance to man the fire hose. As the jet of water sprayed across the Junior Years car park, our girls laughed, smiled, and jumped for joy at this exciting opportunity

With great appreciation, the girls lined up to thank and farewell our firefighters, and as the truck rounded the corner and disappeared down Herries Street, a quick sound of the siren was let out for the very appreciated Year 1s.

The Junior Years program continues to not only develop a love of learning and social engagement among our youngest Glennie girls but the imparting of vital life lessons, at a young age. Well done to all of the girls involved in this important initiative.
