Love through the generations

For many of our Glennie girls, Grandparents Day is one of the most enjoyable days of the year, and by the look of excitement and admiration on our grandparent’s faces, it is their favorite too.

There wouldn’t be too many schools in the Darling Downs, let alone Australia where the grandparents of EVERY student are invited to experience a day in the life of their grandchild. On Friday, the girls on both sides of Herries Street eagerly awaited the arrival of their favorite family members.

As the Junior Years gates swung open, the playground turned into a sea of hugs and kisses. Our girls had been busy preparing for this visit and had set up learning stations which included family trees, water conservation, the Great Barrier Reef, and an Olympic Quiz. All of the grandparents thoroughly enjoyed this showcase of classwork, artwork, and school projects.

The annual Grandparents Day book sale is always a favorite amongst our families, with books being purchased for donation to the Junior Years library. By the number of guests in line, our library is sure to be filled with some exciting new books for the girls to borrow.

Across the street, our Senior Years girls welcomed their grandparents for morning tea. As the Glennie Chapel Lawn filled, all of our grandparents came together for a very special performance, featuring our JY and SY choral groups and musical performances.

The day culminated with the Senior Years Ball Games, which included a grandparent’s competition. Tufnell clinched the win, with the trophy being presented by Glennie grandparent and Old Girl Mrs Elizabeth Pietsch (GOG1970).
