Earlier this week some of our Junior Years girls, were fortunate to be part of our four-week Football program with Mirko Crociati of the South West Queensland Thunder Football Club.

With the girls eager to have a shot at goal, Mirko shared his extensive international experience in football, and worked with the girls, to harness their skills and knowledge of the game.

After the skills exercise Mirko mentioned how exercises like today, do so much more than just teach the girls the basics of football, he says ‘It’s great for the girls to learn the basic skills of football, passing the ball, driving the ball, shooting and positioning. Additionally, by working on the exercise together they begin communicating and cooperating with one another. I see the girls share the movement, share the ball, and they begin helping one another. They start to learn how to work together as a team, which is really important’.

Mirko added it is of added importance for girls to begin the process of learning new skills at a young age, ‘for the girls, not only are they eager to learn new skills, but they find it very easy to learn, with the girls today, I only have to explain the process one time, and they pick the skill up straight away. They listen to everything, which is very satisfying when coaching’.

“for the girls, not only are they eager to learn new skills, but they find it very easy to learn.”

As the session ended and the girls made their way across Herries Street, and back to class, they turned as a group and called out their appreciation to Mirko for the time, and skills that he has shared.
